iPO 2025 : Winju

As part of iMAL Projects Office 2025, Winju is selected for STAGES#2 in collaboration with A Two Dogs Company Residency, where they will work on their project "Medical Black Metal "

Medical Black Metal is a raw and sarcastic universe where the medicalized body meets noise, metal, and tech. Repurposed devices become absurd machines, generating tension, chaos, and humor, while offering a reflection on vulnerability, resistance, and the cathartic power of noise.

Winju

Winju (b. 1997, Turkiye) is a Brussels-based artist whose work spans sculpture, performance, and installation. Drawing from the constraints of the biological, social and technological body, Winju creates hybrid landscapes where organic and mechanical systems collide. Their practice merges elements of nature with engineered structures to explore themes of vulnerability, identity and resistance, challenging both the body’s limitations and the influence of external forces.

After studying visual communication design at Osmangazi University in Eskişehir, Winju pursued sculpture at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul before completing both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Their work blends expertise in mechatronics with a critical approach to bodily and technological systems.
Winju’s artistic research often delves into power dynamics, self-preservation and the impact of societal and technological forces on the individual. Their recent project, Kthxbai Bullies, explores marginalized personalities and the boundaries required to maintain individuality in the face of manipulation and exploitation.

Their studio is currently based at Bodies in Space, Brussels, where they continue to develop new works that challenge the relationship between the body, technology and society.
