27 + 28.01 /// 10:00 - 17:00 (2-Day Workshop)
The duration of this workshop is two full days, with a break for lunch. It is aimed at people who are interested in listening and improvisation with the voice. We will start the workshop with some basic notions about sound, and later on we'll go into active listening through meditative listening sessions. Then we will do some exercises to warm up and get in touch with our body and we will start working on the possibilities that voice and active listening give us to connect with ourselves and our voice. Finally, we will work on one or two pieces of music in which the participants will use their voices. The result will be presented in the concert that Yamila will give on the weekend.
Requirements
Be comfortable singing or using your voice, be able to be on stage, be able to play and be open. Be a music lover, (especially if it is " weird " music).
BIO
Looking over the precipice of pure emotion, Yamila dances between electronic and analog music, tradition and experimentation. Following in the wake of her first work, Iras Fajro 2019 (Forbidden Colours), supported by Clark (Warp), this year the Spanish composer, cellist, singer and producer will reveal her most intimate catharsis in her second album Visions (Umor-Rex). A celebration of hallucinatory powers of music, it offers a journey that prodigiously unites baroque accents, Spanish folklore and contemporary electronic music, and includes a collaboration with the New York based musician Rafael Anton Irisarri.
Yamila is based between Brussels and Madrid. She has performed at festivals such as Sonic Acts Festival, Ars Electronica, Seoul International Computer Music Festival, Rewire, and Rotterdam Film Festival, and she has created music for contemporary dance productions in places such as the Gothenburg Opera, the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Dance Forum Taipei. In a permanent search for new languages that expand the limits of pre-established formats, Yamila has collaborated with visual artists, choreographers and filmmakers among others.
