  Stealing One’s Own Corpse is composed of three parts, a body of work through which Julieta Aranda investigates contemporary existential conditions brought about by scientific and technological developments, as well as the impact of exploiting and depleting the earth’s natural resources and selling them on.
  While Politics without Oxygen is partially inspired by Aranda’s residency at CERN, A Possible Scenario and Swimming in Rivers of Glue explore the notions of space, gravity and escapology, the actual practice of escaping. Julieta’s full trilogy is an invitation for the viewer to travel through the concepts of survival and the future of humanity.

ARTIST TALK BY Joe Gerhardt

Semiconductor is an UK artist duo, composed of Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. Over the past twenty years of collaboration, they have become known for a unique and innovative body of moving image works, sculptures and installations, which explore the material nature of our physical world and how we experience it through the lens of science and technology.
During his presentation, Joe Gerhardt will be showing short films and contextualize them in the duo’s history working with science philosophy and art.

The world is not a perfect logical computation machine. In the quantum realm (subatomic realm) the Aristotelian logic of true and false, yes and no becomes very fuzzy. One taps into ocean of potentialities and possibilities, analogous to Alice and Wonderland.
When 'listening' to quantum fluctuations we 'dive' even deeper into the presumably lowest energy state -or substrate- of the universe. Without those fluctuations the world we see around us would be simply non-existent.
De Wilde’s piece is a hypnotic audiovisual experience and data visualization that acts like a portal to the quantum universe. His video is a product of direct quantum data measurements, their corresponding energy values, and ultimately true random generated numbers.

LECTURE PERFORMANCE By Valery Vermeulen

In this lecture performance, Valery Vermeulen takes the audience on a quest: as an artist and scientist, how to develop connections between music and math using new technologies and paradigms? Vermeulen’s starting point is the visionary book “Formalized Music” of I. Xenakis (1968), quantum gravity and Vermeulen’s background as a pure mathematician, theoretical physicist and musician.
Vermeulen presents a voyage in time, space and sound : a journey that leads to the latest evolutions of astrophysics and how they bend and question the boundaries of human scientific and artistic imagination.
The lecture performance also features Vermeulen’s recent work with theoretical physicist Thomas Hertog, former colleague and long time collaborator of Stephen Hawking.
