The Work
Sun-Flowers are solar powered devices that run animations of flowers on e-paper screens. They are energy efficient while they also mimic real flowers: they only ‘grow’ when they have enough sun provided. Three devices - of varying technical elements - will power themselves from the sunlight coming through iMAL’s windows, or alternatively from the window in the Suzanne studio. For the purpose of the exhibition Ava has designed and constructed exhibition furniture to display and house the technical elements of the installation. The observations and ideas gathered during her research stage of the project will be presented in the accompanying text: (Un)Sustainable Media: Preliminary Notes on Cultural Degrowth. The text will be accessible via raspberry pis which will be set up. The publication will also be temporarily available for download via a local network at the exhibition space.
Ava was in residency at iMAL in March/April 2024 as one of the selected projects of our iPO call 2024.
