Dylan Cote and Pierre Lafanechère are two artists based in Paris, mainly working on digital technologies, there social issues and there aesthetical potential. They present a workshop focused on photogrametry and 3D composition as a creative initiation to these tools.
Photogrammetry is a 3D scan technic used in architecture, video game, animation, etc. Artists also use it for its capacity to transcribe parts of the physical world into a digital environment, and because of its accessibility compared to others 3D scan technics. It works with photography of different points of view of an object and a powerfull alogrithm which digitaly recreate the model. This technic is also interesting for its imperfections. That one of the most interesting point to explore for the two artists who concedered it as a computational interpretation of the world that they can play with. The generated shapes are odd, sometimes glitchy and distorded, looking like the original object but digested by the algorithm, fossilized in a digital matter.
Participants will scan some personnal objects that they had bring to the workshop and will be enhance to experiment scans of things around them, such as architecture elements, furnitures, part of there body, ect. Then, they will create a surrealistic 3D composition with their scans, combining elements with various scale as a digital collage.
This workshop will be a quick initiation to the open-source softwares Meshroom (photogrammetry) and Blender (3D composition).
No specific technical skills are requiered but participants have to be confortable with computer interfaces.
