Digital Fabrication

Here is a list of contents in which Digital Fabrication appear.

Projects

2012

In 2012, iMAL, Center for Digital Cultures and Technology, will open the first Brussels-based creative FabLab. A Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale workshop offering digital fabrication.

Activities

2019

Join us for an inspiring summer under the digital sun and discover how to write code, to build objects that connect to sensors, physical outputs or the internet, to build 3D models and print them, and much more!

2018

Join us for an inspiring summer under the digital sun and discover how to write code, to connect your projects to sensors and physical outputs, to build 3D models and print them, and much much more!

2017 - 2018

iMAL organise plusieurs workshops d'introduction à la fabrication numérique pour différentes hautes écoles artistiques bruxelloises francophones et néerlandophones.

2017

CLOD is the continuation of a series of projects by Antoine Schmitt exploring the concept of a light pulse visible in the city; first with City Sleep Light, showed at iMAL in 2010, then with City Light Orchestra in 2012. CLOD extends even more the distribution and portability of the light sources; pulsing with the same frequency, they create a sort of visual symphony spread over the city.

2017

Join us for an inspiring summer under the digital sun and discover how to write code, to connect your projects to sensors and physical outputs, to build 3D models and print them, and much much more!

2017

In 2015 Morehshin Allahyari & Daniel Rourke released The 3D Additivist Manifesto, a call to push the 3D printer to its absolute limits and beyond into the realm of the speculative, the provocative and the weird. Projects responding to that call were later published in The 3D Additivist Cookbook. In the framework of the Shiv Integer exhibition, iMAL invites Daniel for a lecture on the Manifesto+Cookbook, and for a two-days additivist masterclass.

2017

Shiv Integer is a software robot that randomly selects 3D printable objects on a website, assembles them into sculptures and posts them back online. Is it art or spam? The 3D printing community remains divided on the question. For this first Shiv Integer exhibition, the artists will show a 3D-printed selection of its sculptures, and a visualisation of the online debates it fostered.

2017

Following up to our introduction to 3D modeling in February/March, we organise a more advanced workshop on Blender for 3D printing. During these two Saturday afternoons we will be exploring tools and techniques for parametric and generative design.

2017

From March 6 until March 24 2017 Marcio Ambrisio is in residency at iMAL, where he will work together with Yacine Sebti on his interactive installation 'MOVIOLA'.

2016

In her Filament Sculptures project, pioneer digital artist LIA has been researching the behaviour of filament-based 3D printers. During this masterclass, she will explore with the participants new approaches for 3D printing sculptures, based on computation, the physical properties of the printing material and direct control of the machine.

News

This 31st March 2017, Le Pass (Scientific Adventure Park, Frameries) is opening its WOW ZONE, a new space dedicated to digital culture. Five interactive artworks have been selected following a call for projects, to be exhibited for the next five years in the WOW ZONE.

Among these five pieces, two have been through a residency at iMAL....
